He scored on his début against Plymouth following his arrival on a month's loan from 23rd February.

He came from Northampton Town on a free transfer in December 1995 and is, according to the official Oxford United website, famous for getting goals in the last minute of games and an impressive first hat-trick at the game of the 1996-97 season against Sheffield United. Nobody has worked out how to chant his name properly.

He should be at Southend United until 28 March, but they are believed to be interested in making the deal permanent should it work out.

Opinion He scored 2 goals on his debut against Bournemouth at The Manor, one of which was a stunning over head kick. Since then however, he's been crap. A true goal poacher, like his name's sake John, he seems to get in all the correct positions a striker should, but is not as proficient as the Liverpudlian.
