This shirt was worn in the 1968 / 1969 season. We had previously been wearing a dark navy strip but we had to change it as it clashed with the referee. The navy strip was very similar to Scotland's and, after just one performance, the national press were comparing us (favourably) with the Scottish national team.
Anyway, the need for a new strip left us in a quandary and we borrowed strips from several clubs, including Ipswich, Coventry and WBA. A fan's poll showed that WBA's was the favourite so we continued with that until the end of the season.
Thanks to Robin Sills for the above information.
The shirt above is available online from TOFFS who produce old-fashioned football shirts under licence from many other clubs too.
